Charity Festival in Cyprus: “Together we can make miracles happen’’

A guest article by Mora Thavmata (Miracle Babies, Cyprus)

This year’s Petrolina Charity Festival, held in Larnaca, Cyprus, was dedicated to the Miracle Babies Association. The vibrant festival welcomed thousands of visitors, most of whom were families with young children. They filled the beachside square with laughter and joy on the afternoon of Sunday, the 23rd of September.

All proceeds from the festival were donated to Miracle Babies. Mrs. Stella Kyriakides, Chairwoman of Miracle Babies, said in her address: “I have no way to convey the many thanks and messages I received over the past few days from numerous parents whose children have passed through the existing Neonatal Intensive Care Centre, and who believe in our efforts. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you, and I can promise that every single donation will be used for the construction of a new modern and state-of-the-art NICU at the Makario Hospital.”

The festival was manned by more than 300 passionate volunteers from the Petrolina Community, the Petrolina Kids Community and their friends, who helped make the 4th Petrolina Charity Festival the most successful to date. The public streamed into the square often first visiting the Miracle Babies charity shop on their way to the games, to learn about the association and purchase the Miracle Babies teddy bears, reusable bags, hand crafted bracelets and knitwear that was on offer.

Many families who visited the shop brought their own miracle babies with them and expressed their great joy that prematurity, and the vision of Miracle Babies Cyprus for a new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Nicosia, is receiving so much support and recognition at the largest charity festival in the country.
