On 17 November 2015, we celebrated the 5th World Prematurity Day. We are proud and grateful that, since its first celebration by EFCNI and its partnering parent organisations, 17 November has grown into one of the most important dates to raise awareness for the challenges of preterm birth.
In 2014 more than 100 countries participated in activities, and more than 60 countries planned special events. Estimated 1.6 billion people around the globe were reached. Last year, we placed the children, our true “little heroes”, into the centre of our activities to show that behind every number, there is a personal story. Warmest thanks to all of you who joined in.
We warmly thank everyone who celebrated World Prematurity Day 2015 with us, raising awareness on the global burden of preterm birth and making a difference for preterm infants!
This year, World Prematurity Day featured the year-round and worldwide campaign Socks for Life, giving a voice to preterm infants, and also visualising all those who are making a difference for preterm babies and their families.
It is easy to join the global movement. No matter how much time, money or manpower you have to spare, there are many ways to celebrate World Prematurity Day. On this website, you will find material, and a toolkit with inspirational ideas and tips what you can do to honour World Prematurity Day.
Your contribution, however small it may seem, is important. It helps preterm infants around the world and adds strength to the global voice.
If you organised an event for World Prematurity Day, please send us a short summary together with some photos to email@example.com. This way, we can feature your activity on our website. In addition, you can enter your activity and the difference you make on the EFCNI Changemaker Map in your native language. Once added, your input will stay on the homepage and can be read by many people around the world.
