Expert Roundtable on Human Milk Regulation in the EU

On 3 June, a group of interdisciplinary and international high-level experts in the field of human milk joined our digital roundtable on “Human Milk Regulation”. The aim of the meeting was to explore and discuss the need for a harmonised regulatory approach of human milk in the European Union.

Silke Mader (Chairwoman EFCNI) and Professor Enrico Bertino (President EMBA) welcomed the group and thanked for the engagement to join the project, followed by an introduction to the work of EFCNI. Jan Bult (JMB Consultancy) presented the need for EU level regulation and outlined the legislative process. After a lively discussion on how to regulate human milk on EU level, Professor Guido Moro (University of Milan) concluded the meeting with the current situation and future actions on human milk banking in Europe.

We thank all participants and speakers very much for their valuable contribution and participation at the expert roundtable and we are very much looking forward to our continuing collaboration on this important topic.

The event was initiated and organised by EFCNI, in close collaboration with: European Milk Bank Association (EMBA), European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR), Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies (UENPS) and European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN).

Transparency: Prolacta Bioscience supported the event with an unrestricted educational grant.
