Your support makes a difference

Thanks to your financial support, EFCNI is able to implement various programmes that will contribute to a better care for preterm and ill born babies and their families:

Equipment of hospitals to enhance the chance to the best start in life for every baby

In order to take care of preterm and ill born babies and their families at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the best possible way highly developed technological medical equipment as well as the best spatial situation and special trained staff in a sufficient number are necessary. In many countries, also in Europe, these vital basics are unfortunately still absent in a lot of hospitals.

Family centred developmentally supportive care

It is broadly acknowledged that parental involvement in the care of their children improves the bonding process and the general outcome of the children. Sadly, it is not always possible for parents to be with their child at the NICU in order to take part in their care or there are simply no oppotunities to bring parents with their children together, to offer space for relaxation and nursing as well as for mutual exchange between parents.

EFCNI supports with the help of your donation hospitals with:

  • Covers for incubators
  • Positioning pillows for preterm infants in incubators
  • Bathtubs for preterm infants
  • Chairs and blankets for kangorooing
  • Breast pumps
  • Furnishings for nursing and parent rooms
  • Education and trainings for the team at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Only well trained staff is able to provide the vital care for preterm and ill born babies.

Education and trainings for the team at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

EFCNI works hand-in-hand with healthcare professionals to build a community where expertise, knowledge and support can be shared to provide the best possible care. High-quality education, training and lifelong learning as well as interdisciplinary team-work help to ensure that the care for babies on the neonatal unit is of the highest possible standard.

EFCNI supports different international, certified, evidence based training and education programmes that focus on the philosophy of family centered, individual developmentally supportive care and on an interdisciplinary team approach.

Dissemination of information material to affected families and others

With your donation you enable broad access to relevant information. Affected parents and families need to be able to understand the often difficult situation they are put into by having a preterm or ill born baby.

EFCNI offers substantious, targeted information to affected parents and families as well as to interested parties. To this aim, EFCNI develops and publishes free information material (print or online), for example brochures, flyers, factsheets, etc. regarding various topics such as:

  • Pregnancy
